My Heart Told My Head, This Time, No.

I've been see-sawing between emotions this week, Wednesday was horrible, pretty much everything went half wrong so when it came to me stubbing my toe, I was weeping into my ciabatta. Beautiful image, I know.
But then that was sort of cancelled out by the gleeful joy of discovering Mumford & Sons are visiting Manchester town in early April (in fact a month tomorrow), so we will hopefully be making a day of that. Overall I am on the bitter side of good. As always.

I need something to wake me up because this week has been quiet!

i feel bad for neglecting this blog,

truly, i do.

i haven't really had much too say though, I'll try and give some updates on stuff that's happening/happened

- 23rd february, we went to see spintos and they said we could do an interview. i miss those guys a lot already, it makes me sad thinking about it, haa. pathetic, eh?!
- today i found out i have my french speaking exam on 27th march, the day before the maccabees in liverpool. that'll be fun.
- i would love to think that if i made a time table, of when i do what when i get in/at weekends, i'd stick too it, but the truth is, i wouldn't
- i've edited the peggy sue interview from our trip to york at the beginning of february and thats up on our youtube (www.youtube.com/user/theleftoversessions)
- i also did a "leftover sessions diary" which is just clips from the trip/after it into a minute 30 montage. ;)
- i really, really, need to work harder, but i have so much to do, i don't know where to start at all. i have pretty much every teacher going on at me and it's driving me insane.

i'm going to stop rambling on now, it just get's me angry. i best get back to editing the spinto interview again. hope everyone is well,

Zing Zing Sibling

I have been meaning to post on here for awhile but haven't felt up to it since life has been hectic lately. Not good.

But anyway, as the second eldest sibling, (big sister to one brother and four sisters), I often get asked a lot of questions that I would rather not be asked at all. When Rachael (11) came home and asked me about periods I took it as a compliment. Out of all the other females in the house she chose me to ask! Me! So I did the big sister thing and explained everything, gave her a few words of loving wisdom etc. etc.
I was pretty pleased with myself. That was until I looked back at her face whilst exiting the room. Eyes were as wide as saucers and her jaw seemed to have just dropped. From the look on her face you would've thought that I'd just walked into the room, pulled a kitten or puppy (whichever one you prefer) out of a bag and disemboweled it on the spot. Perhaps the: "Don't ever believe them when they say it's just 1tsp of blood! It never is! They are just lying to you!" was a bit too much. I should probably rethink my advice giving.

So, from then on I'd learnt to dodge questions. When watching a film, Annie (then aged 7) asked me what sex was, so, I just sat there and pretended I couldn't hear her. I hoped that she would forget the question. She didn't. So I told her, "You should probably ask mum when she gets in, yeah ask mum what sex is and she'll tell you when she gets in." Dodged.

The next question that I remember being asked was when I had to look after Linda (age 7) when she was ill. We decided to watch Hocus Pocus. Linda had never seen the film and I hadn't watched it since I was in single digits. When watching Hocus Pocus with an inquisitive 7 year old the word 'Virgin' seems to be said in every sentence. I could sense the question building up inside her and was shocked when we managed to get through the entire film without her once asking. I thought I'd gotten away with it. That was until I was making us something to eat in the kitchen. The conversation went something like this:

Linda: "Umm, Charlotte?"
Me: "Yes Linda?"
Linda: "What's a Virgin?"

Shit. What the fuck should I tell her? Quick! Say something. Tell her to ask mum, tell her to ask mum. Yeah leave it for mum to answer.

Me: "......That's quite weird actually Linda. I don't know what a Virgin is either."

So she stood there. Then she rolled her eyes.

Linda: "Whatever, Charlotte."
Me: "Ask mum when she gets in!"

This all really has nothing to do with anything but I thought I'd share it nontheless.

Love Charlotte

Friday 27 February 2009

it's been a while...

It's nearly the end of February, where is the time going? A lot's been happening, the girls in Manchester have been meeting all manner of famous people for a natter. The other girls (Nelson's) have once again lost their singer. The thing about it is it's not our fault. Cassie afro just disappears out of the blue and then 6 months later she turns up again. If anyone has had this problem with runaway singers before please contact us at: missingsingers@nelsonsislandvibration.com . We need all the help we can get. Thank You.

As we all know February is only 28 days long (29 each leap year) and I couldn't believe it when I checked the calendar and saw today was the 27th. We're hoping to get back on the road for April but at this rate it will probably be June. We're a bit bored of playing the bigger venues so we're looking to do some smaller gigs, if you've any ideas then let us know! We'll be up for garages and front rooms especially if it's a special event (birthday, communion, bar mitzvah, funeral etc).

In other news I discovered today that my local Greggs have replaced their chicken pasties with some strange chicken and bacon lattice things. Now I don't know about you but I don't like the idea of chicken AND bacon. I just stuck with a sausage roll until I build up the courage to try one. Also I was very proud of Fulham this past week as we played 3 matches without very much rest at all. Especially since we played West Brom on Sunday and had one day's rest before playing Swansea on the Tuesday. Well done boys!

I'm going to see Franz Ferdinand next week and also Cat's play Multiplex. Should be proper good!

Anyway, I hope you're all keeping well. Keep checking back for more exciting updates!

York: the elegy

You've probably heard through the grapevine that The Leftover Sessions travelled to York last Friday to pay a visit to Peggy Sue (and Mumford & Sons) at their show at the Picturehouse.
Here is the summary:

Cons:

-That bloody train!
-Getting ripped off on our tickets.
-Uptight people on the train.
-The venue turning out to be a Shithouse rather than a Picturehouse.
-Feeling sick after too much tea.
-Having to sit tight for the bands' arrival!
-Not being able to use the river in our interview because it was so so cold!
-Embarassment on our behalf that we couldn't go and say hello when the time for interviewing came.
-Pregnant thief.
-A hint of awkwardness in the interview.
-The fact that I (Mary) can not go through interviews without putting things into context using the example of Nazis.
-The man who kept locking us out of the venue even though we were allowed in.
-Not knowing any good places for food.
-Pretentious fake laugh kids from York.
-Didn't get to see Mumford & Sons (we're having words with them).
-The Rocky Nest wasting precious York time.

Pros:

-Fun train ride that was very easy.
-Finding the venue in one shot*
-Newspaper man.
-Brush man who reccomended the very fine McDonald's for dinner (the other places were too far away).
-Felix lookalike who served us in the cafe!
-Peggy. Sue. <3
-Olly.
-Winston, lovely as ever.
-Doritos.
-"Party backstage! Yeahhhh!"
-Pete Roe.
-Green wristbands & being able to go backstage whenever the hell we wanted.
-Accordions.
-Winston & Ben featuring in a couple songs before we left.
-Missy Elliot cover. Fo'lyfe.
-Getting on the train on time.
-April?

*= thanks to Newspaper man who gave us such good directions!

Over & Out, Mary, Vic & Charlotte.

Sunday 25 January 2009

your questions, my answers.

Q: Who is this?

V: This is Von.

Q: Oh you. You haven't blogged for a long time, why is this?

V: Well I'm not going to lie to everyone I just forgot. And didn't have the time. But hey, now I do. Forgive me?

Q: We'll have to think about it. What have you been doing?

V: Not much, a lot of studying (I have to say that, I'm bound by law). Also sending luck to my Fulham boys and eagerly awaiting the new Maccabees record.

Q: Ah yes, the new Maccabees record. We assume you're excited?

V: Terribly. Everyone should watch the video blogs. It makes you even more excited about the record because you're only hearing tiny snippets of the songs so you're itching to hear the full thing. It's gonna be incredible!

Q: And talk to us about Fulham, how've you been doing?

V: Well I was slightly concerned because when we played West Ham the other week we lost for the first time in 10 games. But we played Kettering Town in an FA cup match yesterday and beat them 4-2 so I suppose that's a good thing. Also Jimmy Bullard left for Hull City so that's a shame. But at least we've still got (lovely) Clint Dempsey.

Q: What are you going to be up to in the next little while?

V: Well my exams start in 2 weeks so a lot of studying. Maybe going to the cinema as well. I'm going to see Late of the Pier on the 8th of February which is SO exciting. So yeah, good times and bad.

- Thank you and goodnight people. I love you all.

xV

Busy doing nothing.

"Over the last week I've hardly been on the internet at all. Why is this you ask? Well, my brother got a Xbox360 for christmas (he paid half towards it). We've been doing two player on Gears of War, which we completed yesterday and are now on to number 2. I've actually been getting up early so I can join my brother for a morning mission. I forgot how much I love to sit and waste time playing video games. Though is it really time wasting if I'm slaughtering enemy locusts?!"
- Written as part of a blog post, 30/12/08

As you can see, the above was meant to be posted weeks ago with other random crap I may have been thinking. What happened? I was distracted mid post by my brother who wanted to play some more GoW2. Well, I couldn't say no could I?

As of a few weeks ago we also completed it, we're now starting the whole thing from number 1 on a different mode. FUCK YEAH! I'M GONNA CHAINSAW ME SOME BITCHES! Anyway, enough with the game stuff.

Since no-one has posted here in ages I felt it was my duty to do so. So here we are. Though I am now not, as I have to go to work soon and may decide to post something later. Or perhaps tomorrow.

Oh the suspense!

Wednesday 14 January 2009

Really.

I'm not impressed.

Tuesday 6 January 2009

.

I haven't "embraced" '09 quite yet. In my head it's still the beginning of December...kind of.
I am striving to make this year a new start. I'm trying to at least eat healthy, I really don't do exercise, and I'm also concentrating on examzzz too. Sorta.
As if.

On the more social (?) side of things, I'm gonna start a book club through my flickr, which doesn't just mean novels, it includes notebooks, magazines and lists because I can't afford to read that much. I need to buy a scrapbook too! And from the inspiration of a decorated envelopes book I saw in Magma, I wanna start a postbag too? I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE sending letters, and receiving them too. So if you'd like to get ahead of what I'm sure will be a HUGE (read non existent) queue ask for my address now, hahaha.

Lots of the kind of love that makes you stomach turn kids, M x.
ps. boy, some of the guys at college are looking fiiiiiine this year.

Sunday 4 January 2009

it's been a while...

so i've not posted in so long! It's 2009, holy shit. How weird is that? This year has gone unbelievably fast, it's sad in a way. Actually, i lie, i'm not too bothered i just hope that the next 5/6 months go fast. I can't wait to leave school and do something i actually enjoy. i have a realy bad cold/cough/sore throat at the moment, thanks to my mum haha. Actually, i don't think being out in town the other day helped, it was freezing.

I've decided that i'm going to keep a scrap book of this year, i'm going to start it from the 31st of december actually, because that was a good day/night. I'm having to watch hannah montanna at the moment, argh! Depressing. I'm so tired at the moment, i'm dreading the thought of getting up at 7 every morning again...well 7.30 but shush. I keep writing parts of this blog and then forgetting, so sorry about the mix of things in a silly order.

i think i'm going to stop rambling on complete and utter rubbish and go do some jobs so my mum can't shout because haven't done anything...

love victoria XXXX
